Mainly rural until the 1940's and aproximately 35 miles Northwest of the Chicago Loop. In 1946 a businessman purchased 600 acres including Indian Lake and named it Lake Barrington with plans for high density residential development.

Officially incorporated in 1959, Lake Barrington became it's own village seperate from North Barrington in order to allow for higher density development.

One of these communities is Lake Barrington Shores which is one of the highest density developments within the Barrington real estate area outside of Barrington Village. Lake Barrington Shores is a guard gated condominium/townhome community with 80+ floorplans on over 500 acres which features a 100 acre private lake and a community center for residents of Lake Barrington Shores. Lake Barrington Demographics

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population of Lake Barrington in 2000 was 4,757 people with an estimate of 5,033 people in 2005 or a 5.80% increase. Covering an area of 5.57 sq. miles the population density was 891.6 people per square mile with 396.6 housing units per sq. mile. In 2,000 the average household size for Lake Barrington was 2.33 people per unit and 96.4% of the homes were owner occupied.
