Biltmore Country Club in North Barrington

Located 34 miles Northwest of the Chicago Loop, the 1920's saw an increase in estate development north of Barrington Village. In 1926, a private country club and community named Biltmore Country Club was developed which was considered high density for the area at the time. Further development remained relatively flat for North Barrington and the area maintained it's rural estate setting.

Increasing demand for Chicago suburb real estate in the 1950's was increasing the density of homes in the surrounding areas of North Barrington including the Village of Lake Zurich directly east. Nearby Indian Lake was renamed to Lake Barrington by a developer with a plan for higher density home development. The governments of Cuba Township and Lake County IL at the time were in control of the zoning regulations and considerations of the high density development for the North Barrington area began.

North Barrington estate residents were against higher density zoning due to the belief that it would ruin the rural Barrington Countryside and lower property values and voted in favor to incorporate to gain more control of the local zoning regulations. This was accomplished and the village of North Barrington was officially incorporated in October of 1959. Originally not part of North Barrington, Biltmore Country club and the homes of the community were later annexed in.

Demand for Suburban Chicago real estate continued into the 1970's with many of the surrounding communities of North Barrington experiencing high population growth. North Barrington however was annexing land surrounding the Village to protect it's rural setting. In 1985, 370 acres of North Barrington IL real estate that had been annexed to the east was planned for an exclusive golf course community called Wynstone. Featuring luxury golf course homes and a golf course designed by the Jack Nicklaus development corporation, Wynstone Country Club is a great guard gated golf course community in the Barrington area and currently covers 750 acres.
